High School Horrror Tales

Dead High Year Book by Ivan Valez, Mark McVeigh et al

This anthology features horror tales of high school teens. However, the tales are mostly standard horror fare, no more original than other horror anthologies like Tales from the Crypt. The illustrations are average.

I would give it a six out of ten.

No ghosts in Ghost World

Ghost World by Dan Clowes

Collecting the comic strips serialised in Dan Clowes Eightball, Ghost World is an examination of two friends ,Enid and Rebecca, whom have recently graduated from high school.

The stories deal with the protagonist's lives before they separate to carry on with their individual lives. You see characters come of age, do teenage stuff, like gossiping and playing pranks. It is facsinating, in a voyeuristic way.

The illustrations are simple and easy to understand with the colouring mostly a pale blue.

Conspiracy buffs beware!

Revelations by Paul Jenkins and Humberto Ramos (Dark Horse Comics)

Revelations is Hellblazer less the mysticism and magic.

Charlie Northern. Compassionate humanist, chain smoker, talks snappy. Just add moral ambiguity and magic and he would be Constantine. Considering that Paul Jenkins has written for Hellblazer, it is no surprise.

Conspiracy? What conspiracy? It’s just some supernatural mystery, like in......yikes, Hellblazer. The clues before the answers hardly hint at any conspiracy, and the mystery and solution do not add up. If you read the first and last chapter, you hardly miss anything. The mono- and dialogues are good, and great for fans of Hellblazer.

The art is the only original thing worth looking. The colours are grim, while the characters are done in a cartoon style.
