Omega the Unknown by Johnathan Lethem and Farel Dalrymple

Omega the Unknown is a wonderful read. For one, it reads more like an indie comic than a Marvel one. Not surprising considering Dalrymple's involvement. The series starts out rather slowly, bringing mystery after mystery into the story and hardly explaining anything. This will make it hard for mainstream comic readers to absorb the plots at first. However, seasoned indie readers will feel right at home. The book offers absurdist humour, the likes of which are seen in many indie comics.

Omega spends time studying the characters and developing them. Action scenes are few and short, with hardly much action occuring. I feel that the comic cannot qualify technically as a superhero comic. There is no exploration of super powers, clear super villain, or grandiosity to the story. The plots are played out rather quietly, unlike the average superhero comic.

Nevertheless, the book is a truly delightful, humourous read, and recommended for those who love indie comics, or want to try out indie comics but could never get into them.
